A demonstration of new energy tractor operations is underway at the high-standard farmland demonstration area in Jiangdu District, Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Five electric tractors and three hybrid tractors lined up, demonstrating plowing, sowing, and plant protection. Compared to traditional fuel-powered tractors, new energy tractors operate virtually silently and emit no exhaust emissions. Green logos adorning the tractors make them particularly eye-catching. "This electric tractor takes 2.5 hours to charge and can operate continuously for 6-8 hours, just enough for a day's farming. The electricity bill is about 15 yuan, while a traditional fuel-powered tractor consumes 50 liters of diesel a day, costing about 400 yuan. This saves a lot of money over the year." Master Chen, an agricultural machinery operator with 10 years of driving experience, told reporters that new energy tractors are also easier to operate. "The dashboard displays the battery level, operating speed, and acreage in real time, and it also has a fault warning function, so even a novice can quickly learn how to use it."

The head of the Agricultural Machinery Department of the Yangzhou Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau explained that since the new energy tractor pilot program began in 2022, the city has deployed a total of 320 new energy tractors, covering 120,000 mu of high-standard farmland. "Based on pilot projects, new energy tractors are not only economical but also offer higher quality. Their motors offer stable power output, with speed adjustment accuracy of up to 1 rpm and seeding depth tolerance of no more than 1 cm, a 20% improvement in accuracy compared to traditional fuel-powered tractors. Furthermore, they reduce the number of mechanical components, such as the engine and transmission, reducing maintenance costs by over 30%." Yangzhou officials stated that 28 farmland charging stations have been built, covering major high-standard farmland areas. Farmers can use a mobile app to locate charging stations and schedule charging appointments.

To accelerate the promotion of new energy tractors, Jiangsu Province has issued the "Three-Year Action Plan for the Promotion and Application of New Energy Agricultural Machinery." This plan provides subsidies of 30%-50% to farmers who purchase new energy tractors, with a maximum subsidy of 200,000 yuan per unit. Construction of farmland charging stations also provides a 50,000 yuan construction subsidy per station. The Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences has also established a new energy agricultural machinery R&D team, focusing on addressing technical challenges such as battery life and fast charging. "The new lithium-ion battery we've developed has a 25% higher energy density. A single hour of charging can provide four hours of operation. We expect to see industrial deployment next year," said the head of the R&D team.

Industry experts predict that with the maturity of new energy technologies and the improvement of supporting infrastructure, my country's new energy tractor market share will reach 15% by 2025 and exceed 30% by 2030, becoming a significant force in promoting green agriculture. "New energy tractors can not only reduce agricultural non-point source pollution but also drive the green and intelligent transformation of the agricultural machinery industry chain, injecting new momentum into high-quality agricultural development," said the expert.
