As spring plowing in Northeast China enters its critical period, the black soil has welcomed a new breed of "smart farmers"-smart tractors equipped with Beidou navigation and automated operation systems. At the Wanmu Corn Planting Cooperative in Zhaodong, Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province, reporters witnessed a bustling early morning operation: 12 smart tractors lined up, guided by satellite signals, precisely navigating the fields along pre-set routes. Driver Zhao, seated in the cab, simply monitors progress on the display screen and occasionally adjusts parameters. "Before, plowing the fields required intense focus on the ridges, resulting in back pain and a maximum of 50 mu plowed per day.

Now, with the intelligent system, the tractors automatically plan their routes, ensuring a seeding row spacing error of no more than 2 cm. We can plow over 65 mu per day, increasing efficiency by 30% and significantly reducing workload."

The cooperative's head explained that this year they have introduced 20 smart tractors, covering the cooperative's 8,000 mu of farmland. In addition to improving efficiency, the smart tractors also enable precise fertilization. Using data collected by soil moisture sensors, the system automatically calculates fertilizer requirements for different plots of land, avoiding the waste caused by traditional, one-size-fits-all fertilization practices. "In previous years, 50 kilograms of fertilizer were used per mu. This year, with the precise application of smart tractors, we can save 7.5 kilograms per mu. For 8,000 mu of land, this means 60 tons of fertilizer. This not only reduces costs but also soil pollution," the official explained to reporters.

To promote the widespread use of smart agricultural machinery, Heilongjiang Province this year issued a "Special Plan for the Promotion of Smart Agricultural Machinery." Farmers who purchase smart tractors can receive a 30% purchase subsidy, with a maximum subsidy of 150,000 yuan per household. Furthermore, the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in collaboration with universities and agricultural machinery companies, has established 20 technical service teams to provide free operational training in the fields. To date, over 3,000 smart agricultural machinery operators have been trained across the province, and the number of smart tractors deployed for spring plowing has increased by 45% compared to last year, covering over 20 million mu of cultivated land. The director of the Provincial Agricultural Technology Extension Center said that the large-scale application of smart tractors is driving the transformation of Northeast agriculture from "labor-intensive" to "technology-intensive". It is expected that the overall grain sowing efficiency in Northeast China will increase by 25% this year, laying a solid foundation for increasing grain production and income.
