"I've been using this old tractor for eight years, patched up and patched up. I never imagined it would work just as well as a new one after the upgrade, and its operating efficiency has increased by 20%!" Farmer Li Jianguo exclaimed as he gazed at his newly renovated tractor at the Agricultural Machinery Repair Center in Xihua County, Zhoukou City, Henan Province. Recently, several locations across China have launched a "Renewal Project" for Old Tractors. By replacing core components and installing intelligent devices, over a thousand tractors over eight years old have been brought back up to standard. This initiative reduces farmers' purchase costs and minimizes the waste of resources associated with scrapping agricultural machinery.
my country currently has over five million old tractors, many of which remain idle due to issues like engine aging and hydraulic system failures. If they were scrapped directly, farmers would suffer significant losses and waste resources like steel and rubber. This "renewal project," spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, collaborated with agricultural machinery companies and maintenance organizations to develop a standardized renovation plan. For models with severely worn engines, high-compression pistons and energy-saving fuel injectors were replaced to improve power performance. For hydraulic system leaks, seals and high-strength oil pipes were replaced to restore operational stability. Safety features such as reversing cameras and tire pressure monitoring systems were also added to some models to reduce operational risks.

At the Xihua County Agricultural Machinery Repair Center, reporters observed over ten old tractors lined up for renovation. Maintenance technician Master Wang explained that the cost of renovating an old tractor is approximately 8,000 yuan, just one-fifth the price of a new one, and the renovation can be completed in three days. "We first conduct a comprehensive inspection of the old tractors and issue a 'diagnostic report'. We then customize a retrofit plan based on farmers' needs, ensuring that each upgraded tractor achieves at least 85% of the operating performance of a new model."
According to statistics, in the six months since the "Renewal Project" was implemented, 1,200 old tractors have been retrofitted in provinces such as Henan, Shandong, and Hebei, saving farmers over 100 million yuan in machinery purchases. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated that the project will be expanded over the next three years, with plans to retrofit 50,000 old tractors. At the same time, a comprehensive system for the recycling, retrofitting, and reuse of old tractors will be established to promote the recycling of agricultural machinery.
